About

Hi. My name is Daniel Dessinger. Most of the blog posts you read on this site were written by me. I created ThePropheticLife.com to reach a segment of the blog reading population largely untouched: prophetically gifted people.

I’m a husband and father of two. I am originally from Dallas / Fort Worth, where I cheer on my Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks year round. I love hearing God speak and watching Him melt the hearts of his beloved children. I’m also a HUGE fan of blogging, coffee shops, and authentic conversation.

God Gives Each One of Us Gifts

God’s Word says “The giftings and callings of God are without repentance.” Many people believe this means God has imparted spiritual giftings to each person at birth, before anyone has the chance at salvation.

Essentially, each person has a purpose. God created us that way. And with each purpose He placed a calling and spiritual gifts within each of us to help us accomplish that purpose.

It says the gifts are without repentance because you have a gift whether or not you choose to accept Christ, and whether or not you choose to be a good steward of that gift. It’s yours. You are a steward (Matthew 25:14-28). You can do with your gift as you choose.

We’re All Parts of One Body

We were created to function as a unified body of believers. Some of us are hands, some fingers, some finger nails, some eyes, some nerves, some tendons, some muscles. We’re body parts that, when working together as a whole, function as the Body of Christ.

Certain parts of the body get more attention than others. While pastors, evangelists,  teachers, and missionaries were the only ministers widely recognized by the Western church for the majority of the 20th Century, we’ve seen the resurgence of the prophetic ministry since the 1950s.

Prophecy Belongs in the Church

The Apostle Paul instructs us to “follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” We obediently desire and pursue the gift of prophecy in obedience to Scripture.

But it is a revelatory gift, and the most controversial gift other than tongues. Many pastors are afraid to open their churches to the pursuit of prophecy for fear of how the people will misuse it and abuse it to accomplish their own agendas.

Some churches have chosen to not throw out the baby with the bathwater, and have sought to be good stewards of the spiritual gifts God has given us.

How Will We Grow in our Giftings?

While we can obey and learn through the grand experiment of practice, each prophetically gifted person needs a mentor of some kind. God made us to need each other.

That is why we know in part and we see in part. On this earth, the members of the Body cannot truthfully say to the other members, “I do not need you.” No, God created us to need each other and to need to help each other.

And this is best accomplished through discipleship.

Jesus said:

18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Discipleship has been our mandate since before Jesus’ ascension. And that’s why we’re here. As I share my experiences with you, I hope you’ll learn from me. As you comment, I hope to learn from you.

And as iron sharpens iron, I pray that together, you and I will:

…live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you  to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:9-12)
